Frome pickleball club serves up first tournament medals

The recently formed Frome Indoor Pickleball Club has just won its first competitive medals at the Pickleball UK tournament hosted at Millfield School on Saturday 27th June. 

Ed Green won a silver medal in the men’s singles and a bronze medal in the men’s doubles. Ed and Rach Clark also reached the quarter-finals in the mixed doubles, narrowly missing out on a chance to win more medals in a closely fought match.

Frome Indoor Pickleball Club is also now competing in the monthly Sherborne League pyramid and, after winning Division 4 at the first attempt, is now aiming to progress up through the leagues from Division 3 which begins later this month.

“Pickleball – in essence tennis on a badminton court with a lower net and slightly different racquets and balls – is one of the UK’s fastest growing sports,” said club member Ed Green. “It suits young and old, racquet sports players or beginners alike, and can be played fast and furious or at a more leisurely pace socially.

“New members are very welcome to come and try out. If you’d like to play a more leisurely way, try out the pickleball played on the Victoria Park courts next to and affiliated with the Tennis Club.
