THE recently published book ‘Meet Me Inside’ by the Frome based team – poet and model Melissa Stanton-Matthews and photographer Mark Brookes – has now given rise to an exhibition.
The book which is a journey through love, motherhood, divorce, addiction, and recovery is fast becoming a cult publication following its launch in March. The combination of raw and honest poetry with evocative images has captured people’s imagination reflecting so many peoples own stories.
Now the book is to become an exhibition with more than 20 beautiful images being hosted by the Gallery at the Station in Frome in late April. The show opens with a preview evening on Thursday 28th April with readings by Melissa Stanton-Matthews.
Lisa Millard, one of the directors at the Gallery at the Station said, “The book resonated with me as it does with so many people. When we saw an opportunity to stage an exhibition with the images created by Mark we grabbed it with both hands; this will be a fabulous event. We will have the books and some stunning prints on show and for sale too.”
For Melissa Stanton-Matthews this first foray into poetry has been a whirlwind success. She said, “I had written the poems and wanted to find someone who would help me create more of an immersive experience merging words and photography.
“Photographing my body at 40 something felt terrifying! A very different experience from my younger years of modelling. When I saw the work that Mark Brookes creates, I knew that I’d found someone who I could work with and bring my words to life. Mark has been a professional photographer for much of his life and it seems that this is his first exhibition for many years, so it’s been a journey for us both.”
Meet Me Inside – The exhibition opens at the Gallery at the Station on Thursday April 28th with a private view at 6pm till 8pm with live poetry from Melissa. The show then continues until Monday 2nd May.
