FROME travelled to play local rivals Trowbridge, looking to build on a good week of training. However the home side started strongly and put the Frome line under pressure, but stout defence kept them out.
Frome then broke out, with Forwards James Howard and Bailey Brook carrying strongly. The home side then gave away a penalty in front of the posts and Henry Bull stepped up to give Frome an early lead. The Wiltshire side hit back immediately, with a well worked try of their own.
Frome continued to battle hard, with the Front Row of Geoff Taylor, George Benstead and the returning Alex Chalmers all getting involved. Club stalwart, Garrie Webster, directed the Forward Pack well, with Captain, Alex Mallon carrying strongly.
Another indiscretion by the home side gave Bull the opportunity to narrow the gap. With time running out on the first half, Trowbridge converted a penalty to leave the half-time score at 10-6.
Trowbridge started strongly in the second half and with their pack providing a solid platform, space was created out wide for an unconverted try. The home side continued to press, but a dropped ball in the Frome 22 was gathered by Bull, who galloped down the wing, only to be brought down by a great covering tackle. However, he was able to off load to Winger Bailey Rusz, who scored a try, converted by Bull.
Trowbridge then put more pressure on the Frome line and despite desperate defence, the home side found space out wide for a converted try. Frome tried hard to reduce the deficit but despite hard running by centres Ali Frost and Eliki Bainimoli, were unable to breach the Trowbridge defence.
A much better performance by Frome as they will look to build on this over the coming week, with an away fixture to Keynsham RFC.
Final result was Trowbridge RFC 22 – 13 Frome RFC. Player of the Match was awarded to Full Back Henry Bull.
