LOCAL young carers as young as ten, who look after their parents and relatives, were treated to a day out by the Rotary Club of Frome earlier this month.
The club’s annual ‘Young Carers’ Day’ was held at Emblems Farm on Friday 16th August, nearly 40 young carers attending from all over the county.
“These young carers do a fantastic job looking after parents or relations, and the Rotary Club of Frome is always delighted to hold this event as a small ‘thank you’ for what they do over the year,” said David Willis, one of the Rotary organisers.
“After a very wet morning, the sun came out at lunchtime and a very enjoyable afternoon and evening was had by some three dozen or so young carers.”
A magician, jousting, skittles, croquet, tennis and a treasure hunt were organised by the Rotarians, culminating with a barbecue, followed by strawberries and cream.
“Thanks were given to Rotarians and their partners for their help,” added David. “But particular thanks as always goes to the hosts for the day, June and David Millard, who also provided all the food and drink for everyone, and the use of their lovely home and gardens for the event, which has already been pencilled in for 2014.”
