A scout pack in Frome recently took part in this year’s International Jamboree in Kent, which concluded with a special campfire set by the award-winning band Scouting for Girls.
Ten members of 5th Frome Scouts were part of 5,000 scouts from across the world who attended the jamboree in August. The event was closed by Scouting for Girls who devised a special set playing a campfire song with the audience.
“The scouts had an amazing time. We also met scouts from Canada and Kenya and other countries,” said scout leader, James.
Activities included a range of workshops and games including wrecking ball, Twister, Wipeout, hungry hippos, human whack-a-mole, pillow bash, gladiators, bouncy castles, darts, zorb football, target shooting, archery, golf frisbee, laser clay shooting, circus skills, human table football, craft projects, sustainability projects, global environmental projects, 3D Printing, being healthy in body and mind, a climbing wall, abseiling and more.
A parent of one of the Frome scouts who took part said, “A massive thank you to the incredible leaders and volunteers who took Kristian and the group on such an amazing week’s camp. You’ve given up your time, energy and probably a fair bit of sleep – from organising, transporting, cooking and shopping – and making it an unforgettable experience.
“Kristian has loved every single moment of Scouts. He’s grown in confidence, made lifelong friends, and created memories that will stay with him forever. As he moves on to Explorers, it’s emotional to see this chapter end, but he will always carry the fondest memories of you all.
“Thank you to everyone involved. I’m blown away by the activities and the opportunities they had, what amazing memories they all have.”
The 5th Frome scout group runs three sections: Beaver for ages six to eight, Cubs for ages eight to 10 ½ and Scouts for ages 10 ½ to 14.
The group meets at Selwood Academy on a Thursday night and has a full range of activities planned for the upcoming term including bonfire night, a Halloween Party, a Christmas Bazaar, a trip to Frome Museum and a presentation on bee keeping.
There is space open to join all the sections. More information and how to contact the pack can be found on the website www.5thfromescouts.org.uk or on the Facebook/Instagram accounts @5thFromeScouts
The group is also looking for more adult volunteers to help deliver the programmes. “Contact us as above to discuss,” said James.
