After a two-week break, Stars set out to win another match to make the winning total 5 out of 6 so far this season.
It was a slow start for Stars, and the first quarter saw the team gradually get in to their rhythm. The team worked steadily up and down court, with Hannah Dredge and Georgia Cox adapting their shooting techniques to the windy conditions. By the end of the first quarter, Corsham were able to keep the goal score level at 6-6.
Going into the second quarter, Stars were able to improve from their first 15 minutes of play. The continuous effort from the team throughout the court, good ball movement within attack from Sophie Cox and Kate Smith, and defending skills within defence from Kathy Dredge and Sophie Garton, allowed for a lead of three goals, entering half time with a score of 13-10.
With the aim to further the lead and make the gap within the goalscore bigger, Garton was moved to the scoring circle and Sally Carns came on in defence. With the rain settling in, the court conditions became slippery, but this did not stop Stars from working tirelessly to keep up their goal lead. With good vocal communication from Carns in the defence circle, Kathy responded well and was able to gain several turnovers. Although, there were errors within mid-court which allowed for Corsham to keep up. Stars continued to battle on and steadied the flow across court, allowing for the ball to move to Garton and Georgia in the shooting circle. By the end of the third quarter, Corsham were trailing close behind Stars with a score of 22-19.
With Hannah returning to the shooting circle for the last quarter, this was the final push for Stars. The whole team continued to support each another. Kathy and Sally fought hard to gain further turnovers, with Smith and Sophie moving the ball down the court with Amelia Pratten and Sophie feeding well to Hannah and Garton. This led to a comfortable win with a final score of 35-26 to Frome Stars. Stars are sponsored by Dennis Maps and Wessex Drains. Player of The Match – Sophie Garton Players’ Player – Kathy Dredge.
