A FROME teenager with Tourette syndrome will feature in a new BBC series which starts next month.
Tom Carpenter is one of the six young people who will feature in the TV programme ‘Tourettes: Let Me Entertain You’ which starts on Monday 10th September on BBC Three at 9.00pm.
The young people set out to deliver what the series describes as “the musical performance of their lives.” The documentary shows how singing and performing helps them escape their everyday lives with Tourettes. The three-part series, hosted by Radio One DJ Reggie Yates, follow the group as they meet and train together for the first time, through to their performance in the final episode.
Tom, 18, is already well-known as an entertainer in his home town of Frome and has performed in many shows which have been staged by the Frome Amateur Operatic Society (FAOS).
He has also staged his own shows with his friends at the town’s theatres, raising money for the charity Tourettes Action such as Carpy’s Night of Swing.
Tom has been a popular swing-style vocalist for the past three years since he was diagnosed as having Tourette syndrome and he has performed at local functions, wedding parties and on board a cruise ship.
Tom appeared at the Hackney Empire for a music quiz on Sky TV, which was hosted by Fearne Cotton. Following Tom’s performance, Dizzee Rascal said Tom “blew the roof” off and Jamie Cullum commented that Tom “had a great voice and a great future.”
