EARLIER this year Rachel Clark and ‘Team Wiggins’ completed a mammoth cycle challenge of over 200 miles in just 21 hours in memory of Shirley Wiggins.
Shirley Wiggins very sadly died from leukemia on the 29th May 2011. Cornwall was a very special family place, so on the 2nd anniversary of Mum’s death ‘Team Wiggins’ cycled from her home town of Frome to Lands End continuously in under 24 hours to raise funds for PAC.
Team Wiggins, consisting of police sergeant Rachel Clark, Matthew Clark, Adam Morris, Ed Charlton, Steven Pearce and Stephen Lloyd Hibbard, along with team drivers – Daniel Clark, Karen Charlton, Marcus ‘Ming’ Kilgour and Sophie Fowler, took on the challenge of riding from Frome to Lands End in memory of Shirley Wiggins to raise funds for local charity Positive Action on Cancer. Their original aim was to raise over £1000 and complete the cycle within 24 hours.
Kelly Lewis, fundraising assistant at PAC said, “The money they have raised will help us continue the counselling service we provide. We would like to say thank you to Team Wiggins for their support and to all those who sponsored them.”
PAC is currently the only organisation to offer free, professional counselling to any adults or children affected or bereaved by cancer and other life threatening illnesses in BANES, Somerset and West Wilts.
