THE National Express coach service, which took residents from Frome to London, ended on Friday 28th April. Residents will now have to go to Trowbridge or Bath to catch the National Express service to the capital.
However, Berrys Coaches continues to offer a daily service from Frome to Hammersmith, leaving from Sainsbury’s on Sandy Hill Lane.
A resident who spoke at the full Frome Town Council meeting on 19th April said, “I used to use it (the National Express service) more regularly than what I do now. Sometimes I could be the only one getting on that coach and if you don’t use it, you lose it and that’s just what’s happened. I think National Express expect you to now go to Trowbridge to pick it up. You’ve lost the starting point of National Express from Frome. That is a sad loss.”
The Frome And Villages Bus User Group (FAVBUG) said, “We were very disappointed to learn that National Express will no longer be providing a direct coach service from Frome to London, especially after the company recorded bumper profits last year.
“Somerset-based Berry’s Coaches however will continue to offer a daily service via Frome Sainsbury’s through to Hammersmith in London from where you can connect via the Underground into central London or alternatively to Heathrow.
“You can go via a National Express coach from Bath Bus Station to and from Heathrow and Victoria Coach Station. With Frome’s much improved First Bus D2 and D2x early morning and late-night services between Frome and Bath, that now becomes a viable option.”
