LEANNA Knight from Frome raised £150 in aid of the Bath-based animal charity Bath Cats & Dogs Home at this year’s Bath Half Marathon.
Rachel Jones, head of fundraising for Bath Cats & Dogs Home explained, “We were so thrilled with everyone’s fundraising efforts. Congratulations to everyone who took part and a heart-felt thank you from everyone here at the Home.”
A total of 12,000 runners took part in the event and runners came from all walks of life; young and old, elite runners and the more inexperienced runners, all keen to raise money for their preferred charity or beat their personal best.
Celebrity runners on the day included X Factor presenter Dermot O’Leary and Radio 1 Drivetime presenter Greg James.
A record 30,000 spectators came to support those taking part at what is now deemed the most popular city centre road event in the UK. Bath Half is also the largest charity fundraising event in the South West, raising over £1.5 million for charity last year alone.
The course itself is fast and flat making it suitable for all abilities. It covers a two lap 13.1 mile (21.1km) traffic-free course, straddling both sides of the River Avon. The race starts and finishes in Great Pulteney Street, in the heart of the World Heritage City of Bath.
Bath Cats & Dogs Home is the leading animal welfare charity in the South West, covering a total of 650 square miles (an area the equivalent size to London).
