One of the longest-serving tutors for Frome Community Education is revamping his most popular course for the autumn.
David Lassman has been running a local history course for the not-for-profit educational organisation since 2012 but says the time has come to overhaul it. Frome Community Education is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.
David said, “The course on the town’s history has become very popular over the years and has now established itself as a major part of the heritage landscape.
“Many of those who have participated on it have gone on to key roles in local heritage organisations such as Frome Society for Local Study and the Frome Museum.
“At the same time, others have gone on to have research undertaken while on the course published either in journals or full-length books.
“Although the core elements which made the course so popular will remain, there will be more emphasis on certain subjects that greatly affected the town.
“There will also be the opportunity for students to be guided in their own research, either for their personal pleasure or for possible publication.”
As well as attracting people attending the local history course for the first time, David hopes the revamp will bring back many who have previously taken part.
The 10-week Frome Local History Revamped! course begins on Monday 21st September, with a choice of an afternoon session or an evening repeat.
David will also run several one-off Saturday workshops with a local history theme, including Literary Frome in November and Victorian Crime in Frome in December.
David has published several books on the town, including A-Z of Frome, Frome at War 1939-45 and Foul Deeds and Suspicious Deaths in and Around Frome.
