REPORTING direct from his own weather station in Frome, our local meteorologist, Michael Cooper, has all the facts and figures for Frome’s weather in December 2022.
Rainfall:
Rainfall = 151.5 mm; in the old £ = 5.96 inches.
There was one day of no measurable rainfall [N.M.]
The average rainfall for a Frome December over the past 20 years = 106 mm so December of 2022 was 45.5mm, above that average.
The highest Frome December rainfall is still 174 mm recorded 2019, with the lowest being 26mm recorded 2010.
End of year rainfall statistics:
2022 = 899.5 mm; 2021= 894 mm; 2018 = 885 mm; 2013 = 859 mm ; 2012 = 1257 mm.
The average rainfall over the past 10 years = 966 mm, hence the yearly rainfall for 2022 = 66.75 mm was below the 10-year average!!
All rainfall measurements were recorded from a Met/Check Copper [Cu] rain gauge i.a.w. Air Ministry Form 1122.
Snow Fall:
On the 11/12/22 I recorded from a level board 9. 5 mm = 0.375 inches in the old £. This accumulation was included in the December monthly rainfall figure.
The following week identified the snow amount, lasting at ground level nearly five days.
Temperature:
Highest Day Time Temperature // H.D.T.T. = 13 C, recorded at 15.00 hrs 19/0/12/22.
Lowest Day time Temperature // L.D.T.T = 0 C !!!!!!! recorded 11,12,13,14,15. consecutively at 15.00 hrs /12/22!!!!!!
It also can be identified that minus 8.0 C was recorded at 0700 hrs 15/12 !!!!!!!!
Highest Night Time Temperature // H.N.T.T = 12 C recorded during the night 19/20/12/22.
Lowest Night Time Temperature // L.N.T.T = Minus 4.0 C recorded during the nights 15,16/12 & 16,17 /12 /22
Average Day Time Temperature for a Frome December = 2022 = 5.4 C; 2021 = 8.8; 2020 = 7.83; 2019 = 7.5; 2018 = 6.5; 2017 = 6.0; 2016 = 8.5; 2015 = 11.5.
It can be identified that the December of 2022 was the lowest average day time temperature for eight years!!!! With four consecutive days of 0 C .!!!!!! I am still awaiting the Met Office reasoning for such a low December statistic !!!!!! which would appear to reverse a near warming December trend!!!!
All temperatures were recorded at 15.00 hrs from within a S.S. [Stevenson Screen] from two different thermometers.

Highest Barometric Atmospheric Air Pressure = 1029 mb . recorded 01/12/22
Lowest Barometric Atmospheric Air Pressure = 1003 mb . recorded 28/12/22
Wind Speed:
Highest Wind Speed = 39 mph, Vector Direction S, recorded 31/12/22f
