On the longest day of the year well over 100 golfers turned up at Frome golf club to battle it out for the titles of ‘Open Champion 2014’ to be decided over 18 holes of stableford format.
The weather may have been a little too warm for some, but with a light breeze it couldn’t have been much better for golfing.
Visiting players came from all around the area with many of the junior entrants taking part in the Somerset Golf Union Order of Merit competition for which this Open was a qualifier, several of the youngsters were single figure handicappers with promising golfing futures ahead of them. At the end of the day’s competitions it was very tight at the top of the respective leaderboards with many positions being decided on countback.
Many thanks to all those that supported the day and the club staff who helped it all go smoothly, especially the greens staff who presented the course in very good condition on the day and those that ensured the thirsty golfers were refreshed back in the clubhouse.
Congratulations to the new 2014 Open Champions, William O’Halloran, Josie McCulloch and Ian Jones.
