A fundraiser for two charities is due to be held this month in memory of Frome woman Rebecca Chivers, who died from a brain tumour in April 2024.
BexsFest is due to take place on Saturday 31st January at the Frome Rugby Club to raise funds for Dorothy House Hospice Care and The Brain Tumour Charity.
The event will include a night of live music by popular band The Hammervilles, a raffle, an auction, with Greek food available.
Rebecca’s four close friends and cousins were inspired to organise the fundraiser to give back to the charities which had looked after her.
Rebecca’s cousin Alicia Fielding said, “The day before Bex passed, her two best friends and I stayed in the hospice with her overnight. We had a conversation there and said it would be really good if we could do something to give back, knowing that Bex loved music and she loved festivals.
“We then sat on it for a little bit and then we decided to do it. We were all struggling in our own ways of dealing with the grief and we wanted to focus on something else.
“Our original plan was to do it in the summer last year and have a few bands and do it outside but that hasn’t happened, so we went for this date because it’s just before Bex’s birthday on 3rd February.”
Rebecca had lived all her life in Frome and was born at the town’s maternity unit. She studied at Westminster University before going on to work as an ophthalmic specialist in the NHS.
She left the NHS in 2021 when she and her husband Chris had their daughter Mollie and started working as a clinical specialist at Dorothy House Hospice Care.
