Businesses from across the district may now enter the 2019 Mendip Business Awards. This year marks the five-year anniversary of the popular event, and some healthy competition is anticipated as local entrepreneurs compete for success.
The awards give companies the opportunity to shine and celebrates their hard work and achievements during 2018.
This year, the ‘Business of the Year’ award is sponsored by NFU Mutual, Wells. Aimed at companies with more than five employees, this award is seeking outstanding achievers to compete to be crowned as the best business in Mendip.
Sole traders and smaller enterprises may prefer to enter the ‘Small Business of the Year’ award, which is sponsored by Burton Sweet. This award gives companies with four employees or less a chance to demonstrate their accomplishments and gain greater recognition.
An award which applauds young and growing businesses is ‘New Business of the Year’, sponsored by Killens. Start-up businesses can get a boost to their reputation and have a chance to network at the awards ceremony surrounded by like-minded entrepreneurs.
Expanding businesses who trade overseas may enter the ‘International Business of the Year’ award, sponsored by the Swan Hotel, Wells. This award recognises the businesses that put Mendip on the map through their export efforts.
Cllr Tom Killen, deputy leader of the council said, ‘‘We would encourage all sizes and types of enterprise to enter the Mendip Business Awards, whether they are new, small or well established in the local community.
“Previous winners and finalists have shown how local companies can get their name out there and achieve recognition from their peers for the difference they are making to the district through their successes. In addition, some of these companies are then also going on to win regional, and even national awards.’’
You have until midday on the 29th March 2019 to apply. Shortlisted businesses will be invited to the awards ceremony at the Royal Bath and West Showground on Thursday 30th May. Tickets for the ceremony go on sale in March.
