As the nights close in, there is no shortage of warmth and brightness at one of Frome’s favourite entertainment venues.
For laughter-lovers, comedian Rob Beckett, below, will be in town for one night only, road-testing his new material before heading off on a national tour. And for dance-lovers, the award-winning Mark Bruce Company presents their outstanding cinematic dance theatre show, Frankenstein On Film, on Friday 15th November, widely recognised as comprising one of the country’s most exceptional dance casts and led by a world-class creative team.
For the youngest, the Merlin is delighted to welcome to the town, for the first time, Rock The Tots ‘gigs (above) for little people and their grown-ups’ at 2pm on Saturday 16th November. Established by two experienced live performers and musicians, Steph and Craig, who wanted to pass on their own passion for music to children, their shows include puppets, stories, and magic, all created to ensure that adults are entertained too. Craig said, “Having been there with our two cherubs, we know that there are only so many times you can hear Wheels on the Bus!”
A highlight for the Frome community is the Merlin’s annual Christmas show, which, this year, is a thrilling Broadway adaptation of Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol. In a musical theatre version of this well-loved and ultimately upbeat Victorian story, audiences encounter the famous ghosts of Christmas past, Christmas present, and ‘Christmas yet to come’ along with the Fezziwigs, Tiny Tim and, of course, Ebeneezer Scrooge.
There are 10 opportunities to catch this special community Christmas show in December. However, potential audiences are warned that local productions and local talented actors are very well supported by the town, so families are advised to book ahead for this treat.
