Heywood House will once again open its doors for the much-anticipated Heywood Literary Festival, returning on October 18th and 19th.
Set within the grounds of the historic Jacobean manor near Westbury, this boutique literary celebration promises an unforgettable weekend for book lovers.
“This year’s festival is set to captivate audiences with a stellar lineup of speakers, including headline performances from renowned evolutionary biologist and author Richard Dawkins and Booker Prize Winner Samantha Harvey,” said event director Ryan Child.
“The festival promises an intimate and engaging experience with thought-provoking discussions, Q&A sessions and book signing. In addition to the headline acts, the event will feature a diverse range of talented authors and speakers, plus access to the normally private grounds of Heywood House.
Richard Dawkins
One of the world’s most eminent science writers, Richard Dawkins will delve into his groundbreaking new approach to the evolution of all life, “The Genetic Book of the Dead.” He will explore how every living creature can be read as a book, an archive of its ancestors’ worlds.

Samantha Harvey
Booker Prize winner Samantha Harvey will be in conversation about her lyrical and hopeful novel, “Orbital,” which offers a unique perspective on humanity as seen from the International Space Station.

Chris Blackhurst
Award-winning journalist and former editor of The Independent, Chris Blackhurst will astound with his journalistic dive into the murky world of HSBC corruption from his classic book, “Too Big To Jail.”

Andrew Ziminski
Master stonemason and celebrated author Andrew Ziminski will regale attendees with tales from his book, “Church Going: A stonemason’s guide to the churches of the British Isles,” a joyous and illuminating journey through medieval churches.

Richard Vinen
Wolfson Prize-winning historian Richard Vinen will explore what made Churchill and De Gaulle exceptional in his book “The Last Titans,” providing a deep dive into British and French culture during a pivotal time in history.

Gen Glaister
Gen Glaister, author of “The Prison Officer – The Inside Story of Life Behind Bars,” will offer a fascinating and eye-opening account of life behind bars, lauded as a compelling look into a hidden part of British society.

Supporting Young Voices
In addition to the main stage events, the festival is dedicated to fostering youth engagement and supporting local culture with a Youth Speaks competition for students from local schools. “This initiative aims to empower young people and give them a platform to share their voices,” added Ryan.
