Imagining Future Frome: Free workshop with community activist

Frome residents are invited to take part in Imagining Future Frome, a full-day creative workshop exploring how the town could look and feel in the decades ahead.

Organised by Frome Town Council and led by Transition Movement founder, author and activist Rob Hopkins, the event takes place at the Cheese and Grain on Thursday 23rd October from 9am to 4pm.

The workshop uses Rob Hopkins’ world-renowned ‘Imagination Trainings’ model to envision a Frome of the future and plan for it with practicality and optimism. The workshop is free to attend and open to everyone.

Following the workshop, broadcaster Fayon Dixon, a former contributor for BBC Radio London and Talk Radio with a passion for positivity, will host a launch event for Rob Hopkins’ new book, ‘How to Fall in Love with the Future’. It will take place at 7pm, also at the Cheese and Grain. Tickets for the launch cost £3 and can be booked via Frome Town Council.

FTC’s Climate Action Lead Matt Mellen said, “Earlier this year, hundreds of people across Frome came together for Frome’s first climate adaptation workshop. Many of us were energised by the opportunity to get stuck into the nuts and bolts of planning what we actually do in the face of a rapidly changing world. Adapting to global heating is where climate planning gets real for many of us and we start to feel like we have agency and can be proactive.

“We want to build on this direction of travel and go one step further. We want to collectively imagine what our town will be like and how we will live and work differently in 2050. We know that Frome will be hotter and it is possible that AI will be doing a lot of the work that currently occupies some Frome residents… What else will be different?

“We do have collective power to bring into being the kind of future we want to live in. The first step is to imagine it. To this end, we are bringing Rob Hopkins, one of the world’s foremost thinkers on imagination to Frome to guide us through an all-day workshop to help us create a shared vision of what Frome could be like in the future and how we want it to be in the future.

“Crisis is also opportunity. Let’s use the climate crisis to change our world for the better.”

Mandy Burton of the Sustainable Earth Institute, University of Plymouth had the following to say about Rob’s Imagination Trainings workshop, “We were blown away by the power of our trip to 2030 when our collective imagination has taken flight.  A thought-provoking, creative and super-fun day exploring the fizzing potential of possibility that emerges when we ask ‘What If’.  Amazing to hear about the incredible projects already happing across Europe.”

The ‘Imagining Future Frome’ workshop takes place on Thursday 23rd October from 9am to 4pm. Find out more about Rob Hopkins Imagination Trainings at https://www.robhopkins.net/imaginationtrainings/. Book free tickets for the workshop at https://bit.ly/rob-hopkins-imagining-future-frome.
