79-year-old Margaret Sims, has won the first prize of a trip to New York to see a Broadway show, in the Frome Memorial Theatre’s Broadway Bonanza raffle.
The winning ticket was drawn on stage at the last night of the Frome Amateur Operatic Society’s pantomime ‘Snow White’. Margaret had only bought her draw tickets a couple of nights previously when she came to see the show.
“I am so thrilled, and trembling with excitement to win such a prize” Margaret said when she received the telephone call from the theatre. “Ironically, I am going to America to a wedding in Las Vegas in the spring, so crossing the Atlantic twice within a short time is quite unreal, but I am really looking forward to seeing a show on Broadway”
The second prize of an overnight stay in London with tickets to see the West End production of ‘Oliver’ has been won by 81-year-old stalwart of the theatre, Molly Doel from Frome, who is a life member of the Frome Amateur Operatic Society and has performed on stage herself at the Memorial Theatre.
“What a lovely New Year surprise” said Molly. “I love the show ‘Oliver’, but it came after my time of treading the boards. I did enjoy the Operatic Society’s production of ‘Oliver’ at the Memorial Theatre a few years ago”
Another Frome woman, Nicki Hoare, picked up the theatre’s third prize of two tickets for a show of her choice at the Memorial Theatre during the 2010 season.
The Broadway Bonanza fundraising campaign was in aid of replacing the stage lighting control board.
