FROME has been doing its bit for Children in Need. Schools, individuals and small businesses across the town used various events and ideas to raise money for the BBC’s annual appeal on Friday 19th November and in the days before.
The appeal, which raised over £18million this year, helps to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children.
Children at Christchurch First School brought their spare change to school to create a giant Pudsey design out of their pennies, while enjoying a spots and stripes day.
Another fundraising idea came from FDC Law, who gave all the proceeds from will writing on Friday 19th November. It was the first time the company has staged an event of this nature and they donated 100% of the fee to Children in Need.
Meanwhile, cycling enthusiasts in the town got into gear at Live2Ride in a challenge to cycle the distance from Land’s End to John O’Groats. Using turbo trainers set up at the store, the challenge was to cover the 837 miles within 24 hours with a team of riders. However, the team smashed their target, completing the distance in 22 hours and 22 minutes.
Another target smashed was their appeal for donations, with over £2,000 raised from the event. Store owner Richard Evans said, “It was a hell of event, everyone was just buzzing. In the 24 hours we completed 906.4 miles.
