The Lions Club of Frome has again positioned a Tree of Remembrance in front of Rook Lane Chapel in Bath Street.
The tree gives people an opportunity to remember a loved one or cause by sponsoring one or more lights in their memory and at the same time, support a needy cause in the area. All money raised will go to the Lions Charity Trust (No.1121012).
Last year there were over 200 remembrances which, in turn, raised £1,470.
Gordon Lee of Frome Lions Club said, “Despite the chill in the air, there was a good gathering by the tree on Thursday 25th November when the tree was blessed in a short ceremony conducted by the Reverend Colin Horn. Frome Town Youth Band provided accompaniment for the carol singing and the event was rounded off with the serving of mince pies and mulled wine.
“The Lions are very grateful to the support given by the Reverend Horn and Frome Town Youth Band.
“Hopefully all expenses will be met by business sponsorship. So far architects Nugent, Vallis & Brierly (NVB) have kindly allowed the use of the site and is generously meeting the cost of the electricity used. Longleat Forestry has kindly donated the tree and the club is extremely appreciative of this support too.”
Anyone wishing to sponsor one or more lights is invited to complete the form on page 21 and return it with their cheque to the address given. Further details are obtainable from Lion Derek Storer on 01373-452350 or email on derek-storer@fromelions.org.uk.
