LOCAL people in Mells have raised £20,000 to benefit several charities. Paul Starr, Kate Wright, Kayleigh Starr and their friends have raised the impressive sum in just two years.
Kate Wright and Kayleigh Starr had the idea for a cheeky charity calendar, raising the sum of £4,376 which has now been divided and paid to the Heartline and Mind charities.
They said, “The sales have been fantastic (including a Premier League footballer paying £50 for a copy) so we would also like to thank Butler Tanner and Dennis (printing), Peter Lowry (photography), SK Designs who all provided their professional services for free. We would also like to thank June Starr for managing to get the men to take their clothes off, and Richard Baker, Nigel and Su Crutchley for their fundraising support”.
Kate and Kayleigh would also like to thank everyone for their support.
One of the calendar models, Paul Starr, has also been raising money for charity over the past 18 months, along with Barry Holley, Michelle Murray, Michael and Clare Singer presenting “Mice Race Nights”. They have raised in the region of £11,000 for various charities including Action Medical Research, The Bristol Royal Children’s Hospital and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Paul said the “Mice to see, to see you Mice team” would like to pass on their thanks to everyone who attended the race evenings and helping to make them so profitable and fun to do”
Paul is currently raising money for the cardiac ward at the Bristol Royal Children’s Hospital where his son receives care for a complex heart condition. With help from his friends over the last year, he has raised over £5,000 for the fantastic cause.
Paul added, “In these difficult economic times, people have still managed to support the fundraising and with the calendar sales, mice race nights and donations from Barclays and Vodafone, the total raised in the last two years is over £20,000 and I would like to thank everyone for their support.”
