A STUDENT at Frome Community College, Chris Jenkins, has been presented with the 2011 Frome Young Citizen of the Year award, which is given by Frome Selwood Rotary Club.
Chris, who aims to become a primary teacher, was chosen for the award because of his volunteering work in the community. He explained to Rotarians that he helps out with sports coaching for children at primary schools, including hockey and football. He also helps teach younger children cooking and woodworking. Chris gives up a huge amount of his spare time to help others.
President of Selwood Rotary Club, Jenny Bennett, presented Chris with the Frome Young Citizen of the Year trophy and a cheque for £200 on Tuesday 5th April. Chris hopes to spend his prize money on text books and field trips.
Frome Selwood Rotary Club make the annual award in memory of a former club member, Eric Cretney, who was passionate about youth and about Frome, and spent much of his time working for the welfare of both.
