A FROME teenager is travelling from Radstock to Frome on a unicycle to raise awareness of preserving the Amazon rainforest.
17-year-old Daniel Cutting will tackle the 11km cycle track between the two towns on Monday the 30th of May, to raise money for the World Land Trust and raise funds for an expedition to the Peruvian Amazon rainforest.
Daniel said, “In my opinion, you would be barmy to not recognise the value in protecting areas so biodiverse as the Amazon rainforest. The world has such a complicated eco system that knowingly endangering it is a huge risk.
“It’s a beautiful place that I have wanted to visit all my life, and depriving future generations of that seems unfair to me.”
The World Land Trust, who Daniel is raising funds for, is an international conservation organisation that takes direct action to save rainforest and other wildlife habitats by providing funds for partner organisations, so that they can purchase land and establish permanent wildlife reserves.
“Riding a unicycle 11km is no mean feat, and is a considerable challenge for me,” said Daniel, “but I trained hard to complete the cycle.
“The route I am taking will start in Radstock, proceed along the Colliers Way national cycle track, and takes in some difficult terrain and then the steep incline into Frome.”
