frome’s new store and Post Office, run by the Radstock Co-operative Society in the Westway precinct is set to open on Thursday 8th September at 9.00am.
No sooner had the doors closed signifying the temporary closure of the Post Office at the Westway Centre on Tuesday 22nd August, when Radstock Co-operative Society’s shop fitting partners moved in to undertake a major refurbishment and re-fit.
The refurbished unit will be transformed into a well-stocked exciting new store with a butchery counter offering an extensive range of locally sourced quality cuts and meat products provided by Penleigh Farm. There will also be a new-look four counter position Post Office where the full range of post office services will be provided.
The new store will be welcome news for local people giving them greater choice for their weekly and top-up shopping needs. There will also be a sigh of relief that the Post Office is now assured a future after almost nine months of uncertainty during which the search for a permanent solution to continue the Post Office operation was undertaken.
Don Morris, chief executive of Radstock Co-op stated, “We have been pursuing opportunities to enter the town of Frome for quite some time due to our strong links with the area and the close proximity to our head office in Radstock. We have been overwhelmed by the amount of support we have received from local residents, businesses and, of course, the independent retailer.
“We hope to bring to the local community the ethical retailing principles associated with the Co-operative brand, combined with our own unique ethos which is about supporting the community and helping it to thrive and prosper. Our aim is to encourage people to come in to the Westway Centre through our extensive range of wines and beers, chilled, frozen and fresh produce, usual range of household grocery items, news and magazines, hot and cold food to go etc., as well as providing lottery and PayPoint services.
