A Grouse Captain’s Charity Day, recently held at Orchardleigh Golf Club, has raised £12,000 for charity.
The charity day on the 27th August was held in aid of Dorothy House Hospice Care and Hope for Tomorrow.
The day saw enthusiasts from near and far come to enjoy a day on the course, as well as support a charity auction in the evening with a year’s membership of the golf club, a flight to Guernsey with a round of golf for four, and holidays in Europe being just some of the lots that were donated.
Club captain Nigel Coleman said, “The day was very successful, with everyone enjoying the course which was in great condition.
“The format for the day was teams of 4 players, who played a Bowmaker competition, and were also invited to challenge Orchardleigh professional golfer Stuart Clark on the par 3 10th hole. A new car was also the prize for a hole in one which unfortunately was not won.
“We had a lot of members come, but also a lot of non members from as far away as London. Everyone donated and that’s what made it so successful. It was actually more successful than anticipated!”
Nigel nominated Dorothy House Hospice Care as his chosen charity. “I chose them knowing the job they do, and how much they need, and because it’s local,” he explained. The Ladies’ and Seniors’ section nominated Hope for Tomorrow, a national charity dedicated to bringing cancer treatments closer to home, who will also benefit from the proceeds of the event.
It is the second year the charity day has been held, and following this year’s success, Nigel hopes that the event will become an annual event in the club’s calendar.
