Olympic champion Rowley Douglas who won a Gold medal in rowing in 2000, will be representing Britain in next year’s Olympic Games.
In the meantime, he has set himself yet another target – that of trying 30 Olympic and Paralympic sports over the next year. Rowley Douglas has entered the Nationwide Charitable Scheme Gold Challenge in a quest to raise £20,000 for the charity NSPCC.
Having already participated in a number of Olympic and Paralympic challenges, he has chosen Frome Town Archers for his challenge in archery.
The club’s coaches Chris Gilburt and Ian Crook spent three hours over two evenings teaching Rowley how to shoot and despite not having experienced archery before, Rowley picked up the technique quickly. He soon started shooting at 40 and then 50 yards.
Gold Challenge is part of the official mass participation legacy for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and works in close partnership with the British Olympic Association, Sport England and the national governing body to increase participation.
Osaria Petra Copperstone, press officer, said on behalf of everyone at Frome Town Archers, “To have Rowley Douglas as guest at Frome Town Archers was a truly special honour.”
