Frome Town Youth Band manager, Jim Boulter, is in the running to carry the Olympic Torch after he was nominated by his peers.
Jim has held the position of band manager since 1997 when Frome Town Youth Band was formed.
Over the years, he has musically trained and inspired hundreds of young people in the local area, with some going on to study music at degree level or pursuing careers in the industry.
Jim said he is “surprised” and “very pleased” to have been nominated by the musical director of Frome Town Youth Band, John Turner, and Alison Brimson. He said, “I’ve made it through the first round of a selection process and am waiting to hear this month whether I have been successful to carry the torch.”
The Olympic Torch will pass through the town on the 22nd of May, as reported first by Frome Times in November.
It will pass through the heart of the town and Jim would like to see Frome Town Youth Band play music along the route of the Olympic torch. “I think it would be great, with the torch passing through Frome and the youth band providing the soundtrack. Unfortunately, the torch will pass through on Tuesday 22nd of May, so I’m not sure how the members of the band will be fixed with school and the like.
“I am pleased that John and Alison thought of me.”
