A POPULAR and friendly Frome Police Community Support Officer has been honoured with a bench in his memory.
PCSO Dave Adams died while on duty last year, and now The Mount Community Association has dedicated a bench to him in their new community garden.
Georgina Phillips, secretary of the Mount Community Association said, “We’re presenting to Di Adams a bench in memory of her husband who was a PCSO, who died last year. He died very quickly and we just thought it would be a nice gesture, because they’d always lived on the estate, to give something in his memory.
“David was very well known in the area. He was a traffic warden before a PCSO, and had written books about local people who had been involved in wars.”
The bench, which has a plaque dedicated to Dave, was presented to his wife Di in a ceremony attended by some of Dave’s friends and colleagues, on Thursday 7th October.
Dave was one of Frome’s first PCSOs and worked tirelessly for the local community. Described as a “true gentleman” and “friendly and reassuring face”, he died after collapsing while attending a road traffic collision along the A36 in Woolverton in April 2009.
As a PCSO, Dave won an award for outstanding customer service in 2007. He had also written two books: Frome’s Fallen Heroes in The Great War and Frome’s Fallen Heroes: World War Two.
