IT will be raining teddy bears at Buckland Dinham this Saturday, 20th June, as villagers gather at St Michael’s Church for the dedication of the new facilities there.
These will be dedicated inside the church by archdeacon of Wells, The Venerable Nicola Sullivan, at 3.00pm after which those attending will go outside to watch as teddy bears parachute from the top of the 90 feet high tower to land, hopefully, on a target on the grass below. The one that lands closest to the centre of the target will win a prize.
“The teddy competition is open to anyone whether you’re seven or seventy,” said a spokesman for St Michael’s Parochial Church Council, “so dig out the old teddy that’s been gathering dust on the top of your wardrobe since you were a toddler and bring him!
“And while you’re watching these brave bears drifting down, enjoy a cream tea which will have been made possible by the installation of a new kitchen in the church.”
“The new kitchen is tucked neatly away in what appears to be a modest cupboard at the west end of the church nave and, along with toilet and washing facilities, will help widen the range of functions and events which the church, whose origins can be traced back to the 12th century and possibly earlier, can host.”
Entries cost £1 and all proceeds will go to church funds.
