TWO major last minute additions to the Frome Festival line-up means this year’s programme will be the ‘best ever’. Comedy legend Jo Brand and Chas n Dave, the cheeky cockneys with a world-wide following have recently been added to the line-up which already includes top comedian Phill Jupitus and American funny-man Rich Hall.
“The line-up for the 2013 Frome Festival is now complete and we are delighted with what looks to be a best-ever programme,” said Festival creative director Martin Dimery. “The confirmation of Chas n Dave and Jo Brand are pretty much the cherry on our Festival cup-cake.”
Jo Brand will be gracing the stage at the Merlin Theatre with a show that she is describing as a ‘work in progress’. Jo will be at the Merlin on the evening of Monday 15th July – the day after the festival officially closes.
“She’s so funny we gave her a day all to herself,” joked Martin. “She’ll be bringing the final curtain down for us with her usual panache – and showcasing new material. A real coup for the festival, for Frome, and for the Merlin.”
Chas n Dave will be bringing their cockney cheer to the Cheese and Grain for what promises to be an evening to remember on Saturday, 13th July. As well as being larger-than-life characters the boys are also consummate multi-instrumentalists.
Martin Dimery explained their appeal. He said, “Chas n Dave are famous for their hits ‘Rabbit’, ‘Gertcha’ and ‘There’s No Pleasing Her’, as well as breathing new life into old East End ‘roll out the barrel’ pub songs.
“The duo have been enjoying something of a revival of late – singled out by Pete Doherty and his Libertines as one of their influences. We think they’ll add a great party atmosphere to the festival.
“With Phill Jupitus and Rich Hall also booked, this really is going to be a fantastic year for Frome Festival and cements the growing reputation of the Festival, not just locally but countrywide.”
