Jon Davies returns in fine form in convincing win

Danny Greaves’ men were victorious in Devon as they overcame Buckland by four goals to one.

Fan-favourite Jon Davies opened the scoring with his first goal back after being on the sidelines due to a long-term injury. Frome added a second before the hosts made it 2-1 shortly after the first hydration break but the Robins were able to knuckle down and stay in control of the second-half.

Goals from Zak Drew and Albie Hopkins sealed the victory for the Scarlet Runners, who also gained some valuable minutes for all players.

The visitors started where they left off after the convincing win at Radstock, breaking the deadlock on 12 minutes. Ferris’ perfectly weighted pass found Davies with his effort finding the bottom right corner.

Greaves’ men were able to build on that momentum and Callum Gould got on the end of a loose ball, took a touch, and smashed the ball home despite both the Buckland ‘keeper and a defender closing him down.

The hosts pulled one back after a corner wasn’t cleared to full effect with their number nine scoring from close range.

Drew was played through on goal one-on-one; he buried his chance to restore Frome’s two-goal lead before the break.

Five changes were made at half-time, but Frome still kept their fine form throughout the 90 minutes.

David Duru bagged an assist for the Robins’ fourth as he laid the ball off to Hopkins, who was able to place the ball into the goal with ease.

Pre-season fixtures

Next up for the Robins is step-four opposition, Swindon Supermarine away on Tuesday night, 14th July as Frome Times goes to press.

Town then welcome Worthing, Salisbury and Weymouth to Badgers Hill in further pre-season fixtures before their Southern League Premier season kicks off. All three fixtures kick off at 3pm

First up on Saturday 18th July is Worthing, who, on paper, will provide the stiffest competition. The Sussex club secured promotion to the National League, the fifth tier of English football, just one level below League Two, after winning the National League South title in the 2025-26 season.

A week later on Saturday 25th July, Frome host Salisbury of the National League South – the league above Frome – before facing Weymouth of the Southern League South the following Saturday, 1st August. The South Coast side swapped places with Frome at the end of last season after being relegated from the Southern League Premier.
