FROME Ladies Club welcomed guest speaker, Ian Williamson, during their meeting on Wednesday 25th July.
Shirley Smith reports, “The speaker for the evening of 25th July was Ian Williamson and he was introduced by the chairman, Christine Cornaby.
“Ian is a fundraiser for St. Margaret’s Hospice, Yeovil, among other charities, and he gave a fascinating talk with slides on his recent trek to Nepal.
“The group he was with were led by very strong Sherpas and climbed to the top of Peon Hill, reaching 10,500 feet where altitude sickness was a constant hazard. Each night they stayed at a different tea house and visited a school and a monastery.
“He was amazed at the resilience of the Nepalese after the earthquake in 2015 when children, especially, were terrified. He was thanked by Leslie Hill.
“The tea hostesses were Val Humphries, Janet Lye, Wendy Marshall and Sue Francis. Raffle winners were Rona Wilkin, Karen Meates, Val Gale, Jackie Foxwell, Brenda Burridge, Val Humphries and Janet Lye.
“Next month’s speaker will be Eve Tigwell who will give a talk on birds, on Wednesday 29th August. A varied programme has been arranged for each month to December. “
