MEMBERS of a local scriptwriting group, part of Frome Writers Collective (FWC), are collaborating with actors to perform eight monologues at the Merlin Theatre on Thursday 29th February at 7.30pm.
The group says, “This is a leap year, and writers and actors in Frome are celebrating by joining forces in a new venture. Members have created eight monologues and recently held a casting meeting to match actors with the writers and their scripts. Together, they will present their work at an evening of script in hand performances at the Merlin Theatre, entitled ‘Leaps of Faith’.
“FWC hopes that this will be the first of many such showcases. The event has now been transferred from the Merlin foyer to the theatre to accommodate a larger audience, and both writers and actors are looking forward to putting their work on stage.
“The scriptwriting group was brought together by FWC member Sian Williams of the Boiling Kettle Theatre Company, aided and abetted by writer and director Debbie Beale, as a number of members had expressed an interest in writing for radio or the stage.
“They suggested that a series of monologues, inspired by the Talking Heads written by the Yorkshire writer Alan Bennett, could be created and performed by local actors. The resulting pieces are a mixture of funny, intriguing and moving stories told by individual characters, and will be introduced by a rather bossy Crow who knows he’s always right.”
Tickets (£5) are bookable online at http://www.merlintheatre.co.uk or from the Merlin Box Office at 01373 465949.
