The Lions Club of Frome this year held their 9th annual charity golf day at Orchardleigh Golf Club, Frome, on 18th May.
This year’s chosen charity day was the Freewheelers Emergency Voluntary Service more commonly known as “Blood Bikers”. As the name implies, they are a emergency volunteer service that provides a free out-of-hours courier service to hospitals in the South West of England. They transport blood, organs and other vital samples between hospital and laboratories and also keep the Air Ambulance topped up with blood. The charity depends entirely on donations from members of the public, clubs and companies
On a fairly warm day in near perfect conditions, 30 teams took part in a four ball team stableford competition operating a two tee starting system. There were also prizes for the straightest drive, the longest drive, nearest the pin and beat the Pro. Prior to teeing off the participants enjoyed a coffee and bacon roll.
Frome Lions say they are indebted to Chris Vincent, the owner of Orchardleigh Golf, for generously allowing the use of the golf course.
The Lions Club of Frome also wish to thank the principal sponsor Western Building Consultants Group and Chase de Vere who provided the on-course refreshments at the halfway house and also to the following sponsors who all contributed to making it a very successful day: Rogers & Co, Lansdowne Place, Penleigh Butchers, Bath Building Society, PSG, CW Accountancy.
