Counselling charity We Hear You is offering free group therapy for people living with and beyond a diagnosis of cancer or other life-threatening condition.
Based at Frome Town Hall, the groups are facilitated by two professional counsellors and run for 12 weeks, with a theme set for each week’s discussion. The charity has offered one-to-one counselling for people affected by cancer or a life-threatening condition since 1994 and added group therapy to its portfolio of services in 2017, thanks to a grant from Macmillan Cancer Support.
Cath Wilkins, clinical manager at WHY said, “The positive impact of our one-to-one counselling service for people coping with cancer or a life-threatening condition is beyond question and we’re proud to have provided support to people in the communities we serve for 25 years. However, we have found that it can also be extremely beneficial for people to share their experiences with those in similar situations, hence the launch of our group counselling service.
“Being able to express feelings in a safe and confidential environment, facilitated by professional counsellors, can provide a healing experience with opportunities for learning and self-growth. Our groups are a valuable addition to the services we offer and we are delighted to have secured funding for this important work from Macmillan.”
The next course of group therapy runs weekly at Frome Town Hall on Wednesday mornings from 10.30am to 12pm, from Wednesday 8th May until Wednesday 24th July.
