A Unique production of the William Shakespeare classic, Macbeth, will be coming to Frome’s Merline Theatre this weekend, on Friday 24th May and Saturday 25th May.
Set in a druid wilderness; this dark, powerful and blood-thirsty production combines traditional theatre, multi-media and spell binding physical theatre and stage combat.
The production, directed by Georgiana Neilson-Toy, has been noted for being a dark and powerful production combining traditional theatre, multi-media and spell-binding physical theatre.
Macbeth (Phil Ross) and Banquo (Francis Hayden) returning from battle, encounter mysterious witches, who administer strong opiate-based substances to the wounded and act as prophets and drug-dealers to the living.
Prophesying that Macbeth “…shalt be King hereafter”, the witches set Macbeth and his power-hungry wife Lady Macbeth (Tara MacGowran) on a mission to murder King Duncan and seize the Throne.
Thus ensues a spiralling journey of drug-fuelled paranoia, bloodshed, visions and ghosts, with increasing madness and brutality as the troubled Macbeths grapple to maintain both their power and their sanity.
In a recent interview, lead actor Phil Ross stated, “Apart from the fact that it’s my favourite Shakespeare, it’s also my dream part. I’m a screen actor so to have my stage debut playing the lead role in The Scottish Play is quite unbelievable for me.”
“I think this is incredibly clever and unique […] I really can’t wait to get my teeth into this, it’s such a gift for an actor, there are so many places to go.”
Macbeth will be at the Merlin Theatre on Friday 24th May and Saturday 25th May from 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the box office and online at http://www.merlintheatre. co.uk
