November got off to a wet, boggy and exhilarating start for Frome Running Club with the Over the Hills 12k off road race.
This scenic run wends its way through the beautiful countryside of the Avon Valley. Starting and finishing at the historic Tithe Barn in Bradford on Avon, the hilly course combines canal and river banks with woodland and a minor river crossing.
Joseph Donworth (MSEN) was the first Frome club runner to finish, posting a time of 00:48:53 to gain 6th position overall.
Lee Stone (MV40) was next with a time of 00:51:21. He was followed by Giles Padfield (MV45) at 00:58:11, Steve Carroll (MV50) at 01:02:31, Jo Kirk (FSEN) at 01:07:57 and Victoria Penman (FV40) at 01:07:58.
Hot on their heels were Stephen Ratcliffe (MV45) at 01:09:36, Adrian Mead (MV40) at 01:11:16, Rebecca Webb (FSEN) at 01:13:26 and Fleur Rush (FV45) at 01:13:54. Becky Horsfall (FSEN) crossed the line at 01:14:31 and Emma Flexon (FV40) and Lynn Brand (FV55) came in at the same time of 01:22:56. Peter Lee (MV70) crossed the line at 01:23:45 and Rebecca Hall (FV45) finished in 01:26:38.
The off-road challenges continued the following weekend with the Sodbury Slog on 13th November.
The 9-mile route takes runners out of Chipping Sodbury and into the mud and marshes of Sodbury Common, crossing rivers, trails, ancient Roman encampments and the Cotswold Way.
Lee Stone (MV40) was first over the line at 01:13:14, followed by Jo Kirk (FV35) at 01:25:27. Richard Corp (MV40) recorded a time of 01:25:44 while Stephen Ratcliffe (MV40) came in a short time later at 01:33:01, followed by Victoria Penman (FV35) at 01:37:12.
Fleur Rush (FV35) was next to cross the line with a time of 01:42:45. Jo Riley (FV35) posted a time of 01:43:33 while Sara Elliott (FV50) came in at 01:57:52. Fiona Norris (FV50) also finished in 01:57:52, Angela Smith (FV50) in 02:02:34, Nathaniel Collier (MSEN) 02:08:37, Andrew Barton (MV40) in 02:08:38, Maxine Barton (FV35) in 02:08:39 and Emma Flexon (FV35) in 02:15:57.
