Frome Hearts 19 – 33 Corsham 3
As always, Hearts began the game with strong heads and warm hearts. This game was different though, this was new Hearts member Izzy Book’s first game.
The game started off slowly due to the wind with Frome only managing to score 2 in the first quarter to Corsham’s 9. Mia Quick had a debut playing GA for the first time and did an amazing job, working very well alongside Andrea McCall at GS.
The Second quarter picked up a bit as the girls warmed up. Natasha Manners and Carly Ritson worked very well to make Izzy feel welcome in defence and did an awesome job at trying to keep the ball out of their circle.
The third quarter was just as good as the second but Frome Hearts just couldn’t keep up with Corsham’s score despite playing very strong and not making any changes.
The last quarter Frome Hearts tried all they could to bring the score back with Georgina Guy at C and Emily Aston at WA helping the ball into their shooting circle. The pressure was really on but unfortunately Frome Hearts were defeated but without lack of trying!
The final score was Frome Hearts 19-33 Corsham 3. Player of the Match: Emily Aston Players Player: Izzy Book.
Frome Stars 58 – 19 Westbury
Stars sponsored by Dennis Maps achieved a great win with a comprehensive victory over local rivals Westbury.
On a clear but cold evening Stars got off to a flying start with Hannah Dredge and Janie Bullus finding the net with ease as Westbury defence failed to contain Stars attacking threat. Kate Smith’s marking and passing was exemplary and Sophie Cox was not far behind.
First quarter score 14 goals to 5. Stars defence of Lucy Perry and Kathy Dredge restricted Westbury’s shooters to 2 goals in the 2nd quarter and forced them all match to take high percentage shots.
Watching coach Jane Boyland set them the target of 60 goals so Stars attacked and marked tightly at every opportunity, putting in extra effort.
Lucy and Jo Knight looked for the long ball into the shooting circle which caught Westbury out and they forged ahead to lead by 39 goals to 14. Stars fell just short of the target set but were well pleased with their overall match performance.
Kate earned her first Player of the Match award of this season while Hannah picked up the Player’s player award after another fine shooting display.
Another great win for Stars who retain second place in the league.
