MENDIP Community Transport is pleased to announce the start of a new Wednesday bus service to Frome from Westcombe.
The service will run two return journeys to and from Frome calling at Batcombe, Weston Town, Wanstrow, Trudoxhill and Witha, Friary.
Mendip Community Transport, a not for profit company which provides transport for individuals and groups who cannot use conventional buses, was one of over 300 groups to receive part of a £2million fund from the Government to provide more community minibuses.
MCT has been working with representatives of parish councils to put in place a much needed service following the withdrawal of service 601.
Mike Forbes, MCT’s operation manger said, “I’m delighted that this project which has been supported by the Government’s Community Transport Minibus Fund has come to fruition.
“I am hopeful that other town and parish councils in the Mendip and Sedgemoor areas will be encouraged to become involved in similar projects where MCT will be only to please to help.”
Wanstrow Councillor Michael Gay, who has been heavily involved in the project on behalf of the parish councils said, “The four parishes and Frome Town Council have fully supported MCT in this move to reforge essential connections. It shows where there is a will, there is a way.”
