PHOTO|FROME has rescheduled a talk about the story of the Saxonvale site which was postponed from its June festival after the speaker contracted Covid.

Frome photographer Tim Gander will now present his What Happened Here talk at 7.30pm on Wednesday October 26th at The Assembly Rooms, Christchurch Street West.
The talk will reveal the story which unfolded during the time he spent documenting the dilapidated Saxonvale site using expired photographic film between 2017 and 2019.
Tim told Frome Times he was extremely disappointed to have had to postpone the talk in June, but added, “I’m thrilled that I now have the opportunity to show the people of Frome what was going on there during the lead up to the time when Mendip District Council bought and secured the land.”
Some of the images from the project have been on display on the site hoardings around Merchants Barton car park since December 2019, but, as Tim explains, those are just a small selection from the overall project which has now been turned into a book, What Happened Here.
Tim explains, “After two years of shooting, there were so many pictures from the project that I knew I had to make a book out of it, so I’ve made a limited-edition publication which I hope reveals in a respectful and sensitive way not only the environmental narrative of the site, but also the story of the people who briefly made that derelict land their home.
“This talk should appeal to anyone interested in the past and future story of the Saxonvale site, themes such as how we use and abuse the environment, the housing crisis and land-banking, as well as to those interested in the photographic journey I undertook. I’m also looking forward to answering the questions I know people will be dying to ask after the talk.”
Anyone wishing to attend can either buy tickets at the door on the night, or book via Eventbright by searching Photo|Frome – Tim Gander ‘What Happened Here’ Talk (Rescheduled).
There will be hardback and soft cover versions of the book available at the talk, or you can purchase copies now via https://www.takeagander.co.uk/-/galleries/books
