Frome Community Education, which provides an affordable and interesting range of adult education courses in Frome, continues to grow from strength to strength. This term (which starts from 22nd September) sees it welcome four new tutors and over 20 new courses.
The range of Arts & Crafts classes has increased with a number of courses tailored to beginners or those with less experience. These include a dedicated watercolour course “Adventures in Watercolour” with Amanda Bee and “Imperfect Painting With Acrylics – Beginners” with Julia Blaker.
A new drawing course with Fiona Campbell and a charcoal and soft pastel course with new tutor Abigail Reed are suited for all abilities where beginners are especially welcome.
Programme Manager, Pia McGee, explains “Despite having considerably increased our Arts & Crafts offering over the last two years, these courses are frequently sold out often to returning students. We wanted to make sure that everyone, no matter what their level of artistic ability, was able to have the opportunity to be creative with us!”
Arts & Crafts classes are not limited to drawing and painting, there is scope to try out upholstery, weaving, collage and mosaic making as well.
The programme has also expanded its Health & Wellbeing offering. New tutor, Mark Penston, a retired Chartered Independent Financial Planner, will deliver “The Retirement Challenge -Rewiring Your Future,” a course that is aimed at those who have recently retired, are about to retire or who may be starting to think about planning their retirement (and Mark is very clear that planning is essential!). This series of three sessions will consider the financial, physical and mental implications of retirement in a relaxed and non-commercial manner.
Chris Barker returns to Frome CommEd with a new, introductory “3-Steps To Mindfulness” course devised by Oxford University. For those whose minds are all too often racing at 3am in the morning or who are struggling to break unhelpful habits alone, Chris will focus on attentional capacity, doing and being modes of the mind and how to respond skilfully rather than react impulsively.
For more information on all of the above courses (and all the other Arts & Crafts, Words & Literature, Culture, Languages and Health & Wellbeing classes available), please visit the website www.fromecommed.org.uk and book online or at the Cheese & Grain Box Office.
“Classes are available to book now and many have limited spaces – so don’t delay!” added Pia.
