A new volunteering drop-in at The Good Heart is already helping people across Frome find ways to get involved in their community, just weeks after launching.
Get Involved Frome, a pilot project from Spark Somerset’s Volunteering for Health initiative, is supporting people to find volunteering opportunities that match their interests, skills and availability through the Spark a Change website.
The weekly Friday drop-in has welcomed people of all ages, including young people looking to gain work experience and strengthen their CVs. Many visitors have been keen to find opportunities outdoors, supporting nature and wildlife projects, while others have been looking for roles in community cafés and local charities.
There are currently more than 100 volunteering opportunities available in Frome, covering everything from community groups and youth organisations to environmental projects, events and wellbeing services.
The Spark Somerset project is being delivered in partnership with The Good Heart, working alongside local charities and community organisations to make it easier for people to discover local opportunities and find a volunteering role that’s right for them.
Community organisations that are looking for volunteers are also being encouraged to add their opportunities to the Spark a Change website. With a wide range of interests already emerging from people visiting the drop-in, organisers are keen to expand the variety of roles available and help match volunteers with opportunities that suit them.
