Children and staff from Rainbow Nursery have raised £350 for Frome Birth Talk to support their free counselling service.
They raised the money through various activities, including a cake sale, a sponsored sleep, a sponsored tower build, and a staff baby photo competition.
In the cake sale, children and parents made and donated cakes, while the babies and toddlers had a ‘sponsored sleep’, during which parents and carers guessed exactly how long they thought their child would sleep for during their sessions.
For the older children, staff ran a sponsored tower build where parents and carers guessed how many bricks their child could build before their tower tumbled down.
The money raised by the nursery will be used to help fund Frome Birth Talk’s free counselling service.
Open to anyone in the Frome area who is pregnant or who has had or lost a baby in the last two years, the service took 150 referrals last year and is on track to take even more this year.
“We are so grateful for community fundraising efforts like this one from Rainbow Nursery,” says Suzy Cristinacce, director of Frome Birth Talk.
“We rely entirely on grants and donations to exist, and this year our annual target is £80,000 to thrive. This money will pay for someone to have a block of professional counselling – which we know from our research can change the lives of parents and children immeasurably.”
Frome Birth Talk also runs three drop-in groups: Bump to Baby for new and expectant parents on Wednesdays (10am to 11.30am at Frome Community Hospital), Toddler Group for 0 to fives on Fridays (9.30am to 11.30am at Trinity Hall) and the area’s only Baby Loss Support Group on the first Wednesday of the month (7pm to 9pm at The Good Heart).
