Frome Allotment Association’s largest site the Muriel Jones field allotments, will be opening the gates on Tuesday 9th July from 11.00am -5.00pm as part of the NGS (National Gardens Scheme).
Neil Cameron, Frome Allotment chair said, “Six years ago, this was just a field covered in grass. It’s now home to around 100 plots where members enjoy growing a wide range of fruit and vegetables in a variety of ways. No two plots look alike. We’ve achieved so much in the last few years, thanks to a terrific community spirit where everyone helps one another.”
While the plots are the main attraction, the setting is also special as the five- acre site gently slopes down to the River Frome, with views of Longleat forest and Cley Hill in the distance.
Admission is £4.50 and tea and cake will be available. All money raised goes to the National Garden Scheme, which helps to fund nursing and caring charities in the UK, such as Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie. The NGS also grants bursaries to help community gardening projects and support gardeners at the start of their career.
