Sue Billingham, on behalf of the local reading group said, “The group has been running since March last year and we meet to read and talk about poetry and short stories.
“Last year we read poems from, amongst others, Dylan Thomas, Laurie Lee, WW1 Poets, Sophie Hannah, Julia Copus and short stories from Katherine Mansefield, Lucy Woods, Jane Gardam and John Burnside.
“The Poetry & Shorts programme for 2015 includes poetry from Jackie Kay, Seamus Heaney, Mary Oliver and Gwendolyn Brooks and Simon Armitage, stories from Canadian contemporaries Margaret Atwood and Alice Munro and Grimm Tales re-told by Sara Maitland and Angela Carter, April has a theme of ‘In and Out of Love’, while October will see us reading a ‘Witches Brew’ of poems and Gothic tales.
“Anyone who likes reading poetry and short stories, or anyone who doesn’t usually read either but would like to try them out, is welcome to drop in. No- one in the group is an ‘expert’ we just enjoy reading poems and stories and be able to talk to others who also enjoy them.”
The first meeting of 2015 is Friday 30th January at 1.30pm.
