A GROUP of nine pianists have raised more than £1,000 for cancer counselling charity We Hear You. Composer and piano teacher Helen Ottaway set her pupils a challenge: get sponsored to practice every day for a month and show off their improvement at a concert.
A full calendar month of daily practice later, a concert took place at Christ Church in Frome and the combination of cash and online sponsorship raised £1,002 for We Hear You.
Fundraising officer Helen White said “What a lovely afternoon listening to these seriously talented pianists! And what a fantastic fundraising total too. It hasn’t been an easy couple of years for anyone, including charities, and we’re so excited and grateful to benefit from events like this. Thank you from all of us at WHY to the musicians, to Helen Ottaway and to Christ Church for hosting the concert.”
Helen Ottaway said, “I am delighted that we have managed to raise so much for WHY, and so proud of my pupils, all of whom performed brilliantly at the concert. They have totally proved my point that regular practice does wonders.”
