A SERIES of monthly jazz concerts has been organised at Christ Church as part of the ‘Stolen Moments’ Saturday afternoon events.
“On Saturday 13th April, the award-winning saxophonist John Martin, famous for his unique multitimbral technique, joins me to explore the wonderful jazz music of South Africa,” says pianist and organiser Keith Harrison-Broninski. “The concert will include compositions by the legendary Abdullah Ibrahim, other South African composers, and our own originals. Don’t miss it!
“The following month, on Saturday 11th May, Knud Stuwe (classical guitar) and Dave Smith (drums) join me to explore the improvisational style pioneered by Wayne Shorter. Then the first Stolen Moments season concludes on Saturday 8th June when Mirek Salmon (bandoneon) joins me to play the astonishing modern tangos of Astor Piazzolla plus other tango classics and originals. We take July and August off and will return in September for a new season.
“The concerts are informal occasions and you are welcome to drop in and out. Doors are open from 2.45pm and run from 3pm to 5pm at Christ Church. Entry is free, refreshments are available, as well as cushions for the pews. Stolen Moments is a late Saturday afternoon interlude in the liminal space between day and evening. True down time, in a beautiful church, to do nothing but enjoy exquisite modern jazz and delicious cakes.”
