Pupils at Beckington C of E First School have gained the recognition of national UK artist, Pete Rumney, when they re-created some of his work in an art lesson.
The Year 3 class used acrylic paint on canvas re-creating Pete’s work of children in raincoats, with a rascally rabbit hidden somewhere in the painting.
Jackie Murray, the teaching assistant who was leading the class at the time, said, “We have the work on display in the classroom and we are all so proud of what the children have produced, their work is fantastic and they’ve done such a brilliant job.”
Before the session, Jackie contacted Pete to ask his permission for the children to re-create his work. Following a post on Facebook showing images of their paintings, Pete shared this which attracted around 1,500 likes and about 30 comments.
Jackie said, “Pete often runs competitions for children and his work is very child-friendly. I thought the children would enjoy doing this and like the figures and the rabbit. The children now think they’re famous!”
In a Facebook post, Pete said, “Well done everyone in Year 3 for Beckington C of E First School!” and to show his recognition, he is sending two of his picture books to the school.
Pete Rumney is from the North East and is a contemporary artist creating acrylic, oil and gouache watercolour canvas art paintings.
