TOWN manager, Danny Greaves, has said that the club is quietly confident about the start of the Southern League next week – and that the Robins have their eyes on winning the league.
Manager Danny has told Frome Times that the club is hoping to repeat the success of the 2019/20 season that saw them in the running to win the league, before it was declared null and void due to the coronavirus pandemic.
And the Robins’ manager says that the team is in a better place compared to two years ago, with a stronger and more mature team, who are ready for the fight.
“We’re confident we can repeat the success,” said Danny, “we’re in a better place squad-wise compared to a couple of years ago. Our younger players are a little bit older and more mature. And we’ve strengthened the squad, and made a really good signing in George Rigg, who has dropped down two leagues to join us from Chippenham – this will add some experience and hugely benefit us.
“So we’re quietly confident, but equally it is going to be such a tough league, with four or five teams who will fancy going on to win the league.
“We need to take it week by week, game by game, and try and put points on the board when we can. But our aim is to try and get promoted, either by winning the league, or by making the play-offs – the club and the players are fully aware that we are aiming for that.”
Town kick off their league campaign next week at home against Highworth Town, on Saturday 14th August, and thanks to IMS Ltd, all tickets are free!
“I want to thank IMS for the great gesture,” said Danny. “This will be a great opportunity for the people of Frome to come out and watch their local side for free. And I think people will be pleasantly surprised by the standard of football – especially those who haven’t come to see us for a while. The atmosphere and occasion will make it a good day out – I hope to see as many people there as possible.”
Warming up for the start of the league, Town has been busy with its pre-season run – recently beating both Yate Town and Bradford Town 1-0.
“I was really pleased with our performance in both matches,” said Danny, “I feel that we have progressed throughout the pre-season – our performance levels have got better and better each week, as you would expect, and we’ve put in some really strong performances.
“I’m really happy to have kept two clean sheets against Yate and Bradford, which will stand us in good stead with the new season approaching.”
